How to Extend a Suno Song Without Losing the Original

Use Suno Extend to add a new section or ending, compare generations, and assemble a full song while keeping your first version safe.

Extend creates a new continuation from a point you choose; it does not edit the original file in place. Work from a saved generation, choose the handoff carefully, and compare the completed versions before replacing anything in your project.

Choose the right handoff point

Open the song you want to continue and choose Remix/Edit, then Extend. In the timeline, set where the new audio should begin by adjusting the selection boundary. Listen around that point first: a boundary inside a held note or phrase can make the transition harder to judge.

For a longer track, decide whether you need a new verse, instrumental passage, or ending. Add only the lyrics and style direction needed for that next section, and keep a copy of the original lyrics and prompt for comparison.

Compare the continuation before committing

Generate the extension and listen to both alternatives from the handoff through the end. Check tempo, vocal character, lyric delivery, and whether the new section reaches a convincing ending. A matching prompt cannot guarantee an identical arrangement or seamless transition.

If neither result works, adjust one thing at a time: move the handoff, simplify the new lyric, or clarify the musical direction. Keep each candidate separate so a later try does not overwrite the version you prefer.

Create and save the whole song

When you find an extension you like, use the song action menu to choose Create and Get Whole Song. Suno joins the selected continuation to the original portion as a new full-song result. Play the join in context and compare the result with the source before adding it to a release or edit.

Save the full-song export and its Suno link together. Suno’s current help page says v6, v6-wild, and v6-mini can generate up to eight minutes in one generation; Extend is useful when you want to continue an existing idea or change its ending, subject to the current account and feature options.

Common questions

Does Extend change my original Suno song?

Suno creates a new continuation and a separate whole-song result. Keep the original generation and export as a backup while you compare versions.

How do I make the extension sound more connected?

Choose a clear handoff, listen to the source around that point, and use a concise direction for the next section. Results vary, so audition multiple candidates rather than assuming a prompt guarantees continuity.
