Suno Audio Upload Guide: Turn a Demo into a New Song

Prepare an audio upload, understand the current length limits, and use it as a starting point for an extension or new Suno creation.

An audio upload can give Suno a musical idea to build from, but the available duration and follow-up tools depend on your plan and the current interface. Upload only recordings you own or have permission to use, and keep the source file unchanged.

Prepare a clean recording you can use

Choose a clear section that represents the rhythm, melody, or texture you want to develop. A short, uncluttered recording makes it easier to hear what the generation retained. Avoid uploading private conversations or other people’s performances unless you have consent and the rights needed for this use.

Suno’s help guide currently describes uploads of up to 60 seconds on the Basic plan and up to eight minutes for Pro and Premier. Limits and account features can change, so check the upload control and your plan before preparing a long file.

Upload and choose a direction

On the Create page, select the audio upload control and choose or record a file. Once it appears in your library or creation form, decide whether you want to extend the idea, make a cover, or create another version. The options visible to you depend on the song and account.

Describe the new musical direction in a few concrete terms. If you want the rhythm or melody to remain recognizable, say what should carry forward and what should change. Generate a small comparison set and listen for the source idea, not just the overall genre label.

Keep source rights and versions clear

An upload does not transfer ownership or grant rights to a recording. Keep proof of permission for samples, collaborator performances, or commercial recordings, and check the rights that apply to the generated result before publishing it.

Save the original upload, the generated song link, and the version you choose. If the result is not what you wanted, try a shorter or cleaner excerpt and change one instruction at a time rather than replacing the source file.

Common questions
